I liked the first hour of this movie before it seemed to shift genre. Back in 1997 CGI just wasn't at the right stage in it's evolution for such high concept space tech/travel work (leave it to James Cameron to do right) Some shots looked hideous and took me out of the movie, and the worst thing is most of it was unnecessary. Why didn't Zemeckis use miniatures? or film on a real beach?
I don't know. It seems he just got giddy at the idea of computer imagery which was a real shame as the story was quite interesting.
