First Malick I did not like very much.

Astonishingly stiff for a movie made in the heyday of New Hollywood. Not really bad, but I honestly disliked the scenes scriptwriter Coppola thought he had to invent: Gatsby and Daisy whispering love in his house, in the middle of the film, this part looks and feels like bad TV soap opera. The material certainly needed a makeover badly, and Baz Luhrman's version does exactly that (though it may have its own flaws.). On the upside: Karen Black as Myrtle is wonderful, just look at this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhRABm5GgHc

"What'll we do with ourselves this afternoon, and the day after that, and the next thirty years?"

"A little party never killed nobody
So we gon’ dance until we drop, drop
A little party never killed nobody
Right here, right now’s all we got"

Beautiful, and beautifully cryptic. Of pigs and men. Certainly needs a second viewing, if not for more clarity, then for even more beauty.
Update: Itunes regulations forced me to watch it a second time within 24 hours, which was a good thing. The structure is much clearer now, and it is easier to deal with all the elliptical tricks. A film that takes the "show, don't tell"-rule to its maximum and even changes it to "neither show, nor tell". Was…

On the one hand, this film clearly shows that Germany in the Sixties did not have a director who comes even close to Melville. On the other hand, this is some highly entertaining, sensual piece of film.

Really, guys? Are you serious? Kubrick made the shining basically to tell about how he faked the footage of the moon landing? And to fill in the audience a bit about american indians and the holocaust? Well, whatever. Fascinating film, though. But I do not buy one thing.

Wonderful. Didn't know I could like a Bollywood movie that much. Khan is spectacular in his double role as a silent nerd and an over the top macho caricature. Comic, melodrama, vast musical sequences. And of course, as always in Bollywood, a completely ridiculous premise.

Just a little more of the singing, and this would be a musical.
