Shaky but pleasant beginning quickly morphs into a miraculously affecting turn of events. To say more would be spoiling; suffice to say that for every Disney-esque gag there's an emotional counterpoint to make up for it. Not Wall-E/Up level, obviously--the film seems caught between intelligent Mother-Daughter commentary and simple farcical fantasy--but the middle stretch is as consistent and wonderful as you'd expect from Pixar.
