This is a generally solid period psychological thriller. The whole period aesthetic is my favourite part of the film. They've recreated the 1850s very well. There's also the mandatory fogginess. It's cool.

John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe is not as great as you would hope. Sadly, Alice Eve is given very little to do with her character pretty much falling by the wayside, and basically playing the damsel in distress.

The dialogue is a little bit lame at times as well. Which is kind of ironic considering the film is about a genius writer.

But still, I enjoyed it.
