I don't think this film is perfect, nor do I understand everything that happens in it, but it would feel unjust of me if I did not give it five stars. It's just so damn breathtaking for the most part. It's so personal, yet so epic. It looks completely incredible; it is essentially visual poetry. Plus the music behind it. Yowzers.
I didn't have a clue what was going on, but I was still glued to the screen.
The magic in The Tree of Life, in my opinion, is exactly that. It comes from the moment of creation to a ordinary life of these family. The moments depicted in the screen are so meaningful that takes you to your own childhood. As you said perfectly, "so personal yet so epic".
By the way, an interesting film with similar power is Tarkosvsky's The Mirror. You should check it out.
I've seen a few Tarkovsky films but I haven't seen that one. I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
You're welcome. :) Hope you like it.
