The Trial of Joan of Arc 1962
My first Bresson film. Surprised at how much sympathy I had for the character by the end of the film. It is fairly dry during the proceedings making up a good 45 min out of the 65 min running time. It pretty much sums up to her answering questions being asked by her condemners. But by the end, with her walking to her doom, the emotion portrayed by the actress, I found myself appreciating the film above and beyond what I had expected to before heading into the final third.
Some beautiful imagery, especially with its use of shadow in the exterior scenes, and some arresting images, with eye looking through the peephole being one that stands out in my memory.
