A Bittersweet Life 2006 ★★★★★

Watched Jul 25, 2012

Kim Jee-woon is now 3 for 3 in my book. Masterful, masterful filmmaking. And always with a bit of humour. He seems to like the absurd. Everything is ultra-cool, ultra-violent, ultra-stylish and I love it. There is a fight sequence around the middle of the movie that is OHMYGODBADASSAMAZING. Kim Jee-woon has that touch that separates the masters from the rest. Feel free to count me in as a fanboy.

Anyone who is interested can check it out on youtube in HD right here.

  • I wanna see this bad, but NetFlix doesn't have it at all for some reason. I'll have to try it on youtube.

  • It worked great for me, usually I don't like watching films that way but the quality was great.

  • Cool hopefully it'll work for me. I've seen I Saw the Devil, The Good, The Bad, The Weird, A Tale of Two Sisters and liked them all. It's strange to me Netflix doesn't have it because they have his other films.

  • Kim Jee-woon hasn;t made a bad film, even his weakest film The Foul King is good. The Quiet Family is fantastic and worth hunting down.

Not long now til his first US film, Arnie, Knoxville, Stanton... the cast is insane.

  • @Ron - cool, man, hope you dig it.

@paul - I can't wait. It's so awesome that Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho and Kim Je-woon all have US films coming out soon.

  • If they aren't all in my top ten next year, i'll eat my hat.

The downside, this years domestic Korean output, has suffered without them :( Even new Choi Min Sik gangster flick was poor.

  • I love this movie! I haven't had a chance to track down/watch The Foul King or The Quiet Family yet... but I actually have the rest of his films on blu-ray.

  • @Aaron: You watched this and I Saw the Devil... what's the 3rd film you watched of his?

  • @Mr Dulac - Good, Bad, Weird. Might be the most fun I've ever had watching a film. I think I might check out A Tale of Two Sisters tonight.

  • I'm starting to follow you due to your love for Jee-won Kim. I my self am a big fan of his. I Saw The Devil is one of my favorite films of all time. You should check out my "Top Korean Films" list although you might have seen most of them

  • Just read last night that his latest, Doomsday Book, won Best Film Award at Fantasia International Film Festival. Can't wait to see this even though it's an anthology type film made with another director. Click here for the trailer.

  • @Russell, will do, do you have a link to it?

@Dulac, not usually one for anthology films but thanks for the tip!
