Cowboys & Aliens 2011 ★★

Watched Mar 23, 2012

Can't quite decide how many stars to give this one. Could be anywhere from 1.5-2.5. It's just amazing how boring it can be at times when you consider it contains both cowboys AND aliens. Alien design sucks, also. And seriously, Favreau, you're gonna go with alien-cam? That was shittylooking. Daniel Craig is the only one any good in this film. I guess Sam Rockwell is decent too, but he is so underused that he may as well not have been in it. Olivia Wilde annoyed the hell out of me.. on the bright side, Paul Dano received a cracker in the nuts.

  • Please elaborate on Paul Dano receiving a cracker in the nuts. I'm not sure what that means, but my imagination is going to strange places to figure it out.

  • Ha! I was gonna ask the same question filmape did. The Paul Dano comment made me want to see it. I'm glad I saved $20.00 on this.

  • He was kicked right in the nuts, haha I can see how it would sound very wrong..

  • While I like Paul Dano a fair bit, I find he is a bit inconsistent. He gets props with me simply for holding his own against Daniel Day-Lewis though. The fact that Dano was able to make his character in There Will Be Blood even half as memorable as Daniel Plainview, is a serious accomplishment. That being said, I think in every movie that I have seen him in, including There Will Be Blood, he plays a character that deserves are kick square in the nards.

  • I'm still baffled how Favreau made this concept as dull as he did. There's a touch of banter between Craig and Ford at the very end of the film which was really needed throughout - it could have worked well as a post-modern passing of the baton type relationship but the entire thing is a just as cliched snoozefest. Dire.

  • I agree with filmape on the Dano comment. I'm not a huge fan but that fact that he didn't get his ass handed to him in
There Will Be Blood speaks volumes about his skill as an actor and I'm sure he'll be in many more great films. Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood is one of the best performances I've ever seen. I know a lot of people criticize Dano for not holding his own in that film but seriously name one actor still in his 20's that could have done a better job in that role. I've got to give There Will Be Blood a rewatch soon.

  • He is very good in There Will Be Blood, but lately I've seen him in this and Knight and Day and he was not good at all.
