Hunger 2008 ★★★★★

Watched Feb 28, 2012

This is one of the very best films I've seen in a good while. It was Steve McQueen's debut? Fuck, I can't believe it. It's a beautiful, thought-provoking, haunting and brutal film. And I mean BRUTAL.

If, for some reason you are not yet convinced that Fassbender is one of the best actors working right now, watch this film and you will be among the doubting no more. He delivers a performance that should and will be remembered forever. Looks like he almost lost as much weight as Bale did for The Machinist. Ah, maybe not quite, but it's scary as hell.

There is a conversation that takes place around the middle of the film and goes on for almost half an hour. And it's gripping. It's nearly uncut, too. I think there is a shot that lasts about 16 minutes uncut. Amazing. Just do yourself a favour and watch this film.

  • Haven't seen either but Band of Brothers is amazing. Think Saving Private Ryan without the stupid bookends, a little grittier and with a whole lot more character.

  • Sinner: That's okay. Same thing happens with me and Saving Private Ryan. I literally find out that random actors are in that movie that I never noticed before every time I watch it. First it was Vin Diesel, then Paul Giamatti, then Nathan Fillion, then Ted Danson, then Dennis Farina, then Bryan Cranston, etc. It just never stops.

Aaron: Both shows earn my highest recommendation. I'll definitely check out BOB soon.

  • Ryan: Nope, haven't seen BOB.

"Oh, that dog just ain't gonna hunt!"

  • Fassbender and Hardy are both so good it's almost pointless to argue who's better. Hardy as Bronson might be my favorite performace I've seen so I might have to give the edge to him but I'd also really like to see Fassbender do a crazy ass role like that. Definatley the two best actors of the new generation. I'm excited to see what Hardy does with Bane.

  • Can't wait to see what he does with Bane, it looks pretty awesome.

  • This is one of my favourite films! Cannot wait to see Shame by Steve McQueen
