Aaron T. Rex’s review:
Much better than I remembered. Been a good while since I watched it, I guess. The language used is awesome, I always love that style and Tom Hanks certainly delivers the lines like the pro he is. I greatly enjoy Marlon Wayans too, he doesn't always work in the films he's in but I like him very much in The Ladykillers. Needless to say, the rest of the cast is great too. It's the Coens!
I would probably say I find the film more amusing than laugh-out-loud-funny but there are still moments that crack me up. Especially when J.K. Simmons is on screen.
I completly agree it is amusing throughout and not laugh out loud funny but kept a smile on my face till the end. It shames me to not have seen the original which is highly regarded and probably why most people find this remake irrelevent.
I don't know why, but I have zero interest in the original. Then again, just checked it's IMDb. Shit, man. That thing's got Alec Guinness AND Peter Sellers!
