It's as disheartening as it is baffling that for all the bitching, moaning, and general boo-hooing over reboots, remakes, sequels, and adaptations, a film with the nerve to be original and outright different gets slammed harder than anything else has in years. Worse yet is that the theatrical cut is still being used as a source of critique while the extended cut, clocking in with an impressive seventeen minutes of integral, reintegrated footage is ignored simply because a proper go…

There is little to say here by way of genuine praise as the performances and cleverness that work do so in spite of the film itself, despite the contemptuous lead in Emma Stone. She carries the film with a lofty playfulness that endears, but the character she plays is such a horrible person that her function as protagonist demands that we, the audience, also be so flippant and amoral. Bullet points? You bet!

The…

An abomination of logic and decency, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN does deliver on one front I never thought possible, which is making me appreciate Tobey Maguire's learning disabled approach to Peter Parker. In that vein, it also made me pine for Kirsten Dunst's beer goggles version of Mary Jane as the romantic interest, far more endearing and attractive than wide faced Emma Stone. Actually, this film may be so awful that it will go down in legend for making Sam Raimi's…
