The Amazing Spider-Man 2012 ★★★½

Watched Sep 07, 2012

Solid retelling of the Spider-Man story that we hadn't seen on film in, oh, about 5 whole years. The fact that they decided to basically start the series over with a new vision (and so they wouldn't lose the rights to Spidey) is annoying but this film is stronger than Sam Raimi's Spiderman from 2000. There's more depth to Peter Parker in this story and the lack of CGI action in the first half of the film in order to better set up Parker's background and character is welcoming.

I think Spider-Man 2, with Doc Ock as the bad guy, was better than this film, but only because the Lizard just seems kind of uninspired as a villian. He's basically a more human Godzilla with far less size and power. I'd like to see the next film in the series (which you know they will make) provided that Garfield and Stone remain in the lead roles. And they find a better villain.
