I think La La Land is flawed.
Yes it's well directed, the acting is great and the production is fantastic, but I find the film to be tonally inconsistent, incredibly cliched and in all honesty, badly written. The screenplay is very trashy.
I don't know, maybe it's just me but I think the film is just good and when compared to Whiplash, you see it is inferior in every way.
That's not to say there isn't a plethora of joy…
It's hard to put into words an experience that is as raw and real as Blue is the Warmest Colour.
It's a staggering, monumental, 3 hour epic that perfectly incapsulates the human condition.
It's beautifuly crafted with some of the best camerawork I've seen and a great usage of colours to represent the mood and tonal shifts of the narrative.
