TheMovieVampire’s review:
This is one of the most acclaimed American films of the early 90s and it was an important step in the careers of all involved, but I’ve got to say that I was maybe expecting a little more from it. I guess I expected something a little more elaborate out of a famous movie in the con-artist genre, though maybe that’s just because this was from a pre-Usual Suspects era when people didn’t expect wild twists out of their crime movies. I liked a lot of the acting and direction, but it inhabits some strange grey zone where it’s too grim to be fun while not being weighty enough to truly be taken seriously.
