Chris Hormann’s review published on Letterboxd:
The original Godzilla movie was made in the fairly recent shadow of A-bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those events inform the narrative of this film and make it so much more than a monster movie. Yes, the effects are ropey by today's standards but this movie has stood the test of time because it confronted the proliferation of nuclear weapons in a country which understood exactly what an end game looked like. Throw in a sublime soundtrack and Godzilla deserves its status of a classic.
