A list of NC-17 rated movies by the MPAA. The list includes titles which were originally rated NC-17 but later cut to earn a lower rating like the 'Saw' franchise. Also included are the movies like 'Mysterious Skin' which would have gained an NC-17 but chose to release 'Unrated' instead.

Why on earth did The Getaway get an NC-17? Mental.
I find the sexual prudery of the MPAA quite disgusting; they give this rating to films which quite rightly get a 15 or even perhaps a 12 over here, just because of a few sex scenes or someone smoking a joint, and yet are quite happy for kids to watch extreme violence. One of the things that makes me glad I'm not American so I don't have to spend more time being angry about it.
A bizarre list that's even more bizarre due to me having seen quite a few of them and having no idea why they were given this kiss of death rating. The MPAA, everything they stand for and everything they represent could be worse for cinema.
So what your saying theNomad, is that the MPAA are not an entirely rational and reasonable organization who make calculated and thoughtful choices when rating films?? Consider me shocked! There's some utter shit on this list, but there's also many pieces of brilliance. It's sad that these films are less accessible to the American public, because of a little bit of sex or controversial violence.
Yeah some dire choices I certainly wouldn't use this list for essential movies to see, how can a movie like Scary Movie 2 be deemed offensive ? obviously excluding to your intelligence.
I guess its best to see the list and what the distributors & producers chose to do if they agreed to the rating, cut it for an R or release Unrated.

A sex scene between Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's characters in the 1994 remake had to be excised.
