The Princess Bride 1987 ★★★★★

Rewatched Aug 17, 2012

It took me forever to watch this movie. I never watched it when I was a kid because it was "a girls movie yuck!!!" Not even with the great Andre The Giant could get me to watch it. The one day when I was about 11 years old it tricked me! I was flipping through the channels on TV and caught the very start of the sword fight between The Dread Pirate Roberts and Inigo Montoya. Sword fights are always awesome so I was all about it! Then after that came the battle with Andre The Giant and it was at that moment I knew I had been duped! This was that girls movie! But I was a little older now and figured so far so good, the second it gets too mushy though I'm outta here!

Just like lil Fred Savage by the time it got to the more romantic stuff in the movie I didn't care anymore, how could I it was a rip roaring adventure, with plenty of laughs and fun along the way.

The acting is excellent on every front. Cary Elwes has never been better then he is here as Wesley/The Dread Pirate Roberts he hits everything perfectly, the action, the adventure, the comedy, the romance he does it all.

Mandy Patinkin has long been an under rated actor and his show stealing performance as Inigo Montoya should of shot him off to super stardom. We all know his famous line from the movie and most of us have probably quoted it, "Hello. My name is Indigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Awesome.

Like Patinkin, Wallace Shawn has never been better then he was in his role as Vizzini a genius of the highest order, who is so smart that he outsmarts himself in his poison drinking challenge against Wesley.

Andre The Giant show just why he was beloved in the wrestling world in this movie as Fezzik. He's a lovable giant who's loyal to a fault to Wesley, Montoya and Vizzini.

Robyn Wright was also fantastic as Buttercup the item of Wesley's affection and one look at her is enough to know why she is so beloved by Wesley.

Everyone else in the movie also give great performances Christopher Guest, Billy Crystal, Chris Sarandon, Peter Falk and Fred Savage were all great.

The movie itself is great and shows the lengths that a man would go to save and be reunited with the woman that he loves. Not only is this movie a story about about True Love but is also probably the greatest movie on the subject. Even the guys can't help but love this movie, it has the action, adventure, fantasy and comedy that every guy loves all the while being kept together by one common theme. True Love, and that's something every woman would want in a movie. The Princess Bride is one of the more perfect movies out there that blends together many different genres to perfect. I give this one a 10 out of 10.
