Can you imagine that there are teenagers who are going to watch this and think this is the FIRST time anyone has challenged the status quo? Colfer valiantly fights cliches and strawmen with more of the same. A game cast puts together what amounts to Fox Searchlight teen dramedy 101.

I DO think a romantic comedy about the lingering feelings in the aftermath of a break-up is an intriguing territory to be explored in film. I DO NOT think this film does that exploring especially well. The story quickly loses track of Jesse and focuses wholly on Celeste (which is fine as it gives a wonderful dramatic showcase for Jones) but is distracted by numerous stock romcom cliches and the bizarre choice to shoot mostly in the dark.

Perhaps the best screen version of Julius Caesar I've ever seen. The Taviani brothers conceit does not overshadow Shakespeare's text, rather it illuminates it. The prison setting allows us to consider how the historical characters are trapped in their roles, beliefs and convictions. The performances are stirring, funny and keenly felt and all the more remarkable considering the mutated documentary nature of the film.
