When I was a kid, my siblings used to always scare me about an "urban legend", called Candyman. Really it's based on Bloody Mary but my teenage siblings were far more familiar with Candyman since the movie was fairly recent. During my childhood, I never saw the film. Strangely, only now have I actually sat down and watch it.
I am really surprised at how much I liked this movie. It's incredibly dark and pretty gory (both things I love) and the direction it takes in the second half really seems like a nice psychological turn. Candyman's past murders and origin I thought was really interesting and did feel like a good "urban legend." Plus Tony Todd is a great villain and is satisfying in the role.
A pretty good 90's horror film. Too bad I don't have a younger sibling to torment.
