Magic Mike 2012
If the Oscars had a "Best Film About Male Strippers" category, this would be a lock.

The Tree of Life 2011
'The Tree of Life' is a polarizing film from director Terrence Malick. Replace the film's name in the previous sentence with any of Malick's other works and you could say the same thing. Such is his style. I fall into the camp which saw a beautiful meditation between life, death, chaos, order, nature, grace, and all those words they teach you in philosophy. It's by no means "light" viewing, and most definitely isn't for everyone, but if in the right mood, it just might be for you.

Perfect Sense 2012
Beautiful. There's a lot for me to like here. It has all the things that make me love film. The atmosphere is bleak but gentle. Max Richter's score is nothing short of gorgeous. I ended up liking this quite a bit more than I expected to!

The Imposter 2012
Reality is indeed stranger than fiction! What a bizarre story, and the fact that it's actually true just blows my mind. I really like the decision to use some traditional film elements here, they definitely add to the mystery. One of the better Docs I've seen in quite a while.

Time of Eve 2010
I've been meaning to watch this for ages, so I'm glad I finally got around to it. This is a very likable, laid back sci-fi anime film, that suffers from some disjointedness (it WAS originally a net series), and an incomplete story. My rating reflects the assumption that there will be a sequel - and I truly hope there WILL be a sequel - so I forgive some of the incoherentness and lack of a proper conclusion. This might be…

Silver Linings Playbook 2012
A hard to define film, that deftly tackles many genres with ease. Massively entertaining, and immaculately acted by everyone involved, this is one of the better times to be had at the cinema this year!

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
Wes Anderson made a Wes Anderson film.
This statement will either excite you or make you roll your eyes. I'm definitely in the former camp here. This was such a fun, well made film, with such a whimsical nature I couldn't dislike it. Some say that his saccharine style is too much, but that doesn't really bother me. I feel like a director like Anderson is needed right now, in a time where Hollywood wants everything to be made with…

I Bury The Living 1958
"Heart disease is the country's number one killer"
"Maybe not in Milford."A really interesting, albeit simple, Twilight Zone-esque film. I love small scale "stories" like this. Despite it's obvious lack of budget, it succeeds in creating an eerie atmosphere in which something like this seems plausible, or at least makes sense, in it's own way. Not without it's shortcomings, but ultimately, I found this very enjoyable.

Let Me In 2010
Remakes exist for one of several reasons. The only real reasons I can think of are: 1. To localize it for another region, and 2. To try and improve upon a lackluster original. Obviously, 2 is not the case here, so it must be 1. I have never had an issue with watching a film in it's original form, so something like this wasn't meant for me. Which puts me in an odd spot when I actually watch one of…

The Devil Inside 2012
Oh, look. An exorcism movie. I haven't seen one of those in a while! And it's so original, too!

The Avengers 2012
I've figured out one of the reasons that this film works so well. The film is scattered with so many little things to like. Flavor, if you will. Nuances of personality that makes the multitude of explosions and crazy action sequences feel alive, and vibrant, instead of bland, and boring, which is how I feel quite a few big budget action sequences are. This is so fun, even on a rewatch. I imagine my third, fourth, fifth, etc. viewings will be just as positive as this one was.
