Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame 2011

Thomas van Zuijlen’s review:
Shocking to see that a film with such a large amount of totally batshit insane action set pieces can be so tremendously and utterly boring. While Detective Dee looks beautiful and has a couple of stand-out character moments, the action, zen detective work, and - most of all - the internal logic is all over the place. As a result, it's hard to keep rooting for whatever the protagonists' cause is at any given moment. Even though everybody is busy punching, airwalking, transfiguring, burning, and/or posing like there's no tomorrow.
Redeeming feature: Contains a preposterous but awesome human vs. deer martial arts scene. Also, according to the Englishesque subtitles, this movie features a character named Donkey Wang. Go figure.
