Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 2003
Rewatched whilst planning characters for a pirate themed D&D game next week. Yes, my nerdiness is nerdier than your nerdiness.
Could do with filleting throughout - the first eight minutes before Jack turns up draaaaaaag - and Orlando Bloom's English accent is bizarrely bad given that he's genuinely English, but y'know, zombie pirates. Zombie monkey. Gags. Sword fights. Sets so awesome I want to live in them. Yaaaaarrrrrgggh.

Super 2010
Even though its tone is all over the place, Super still manages to get away with its cocktail of pitch black comedy, genre satire and compelling drama.
Love him or hate him, Rainn Wilson is the perfect choice for this role. His off beat sense of comedy works really well here, but it is in the smaller, more dramatic moments where I found him to be absolutely convincing. His prayer scene was a thing of brutal, honest, ugly beauty.
Ellen…

Finding Nemo 2003
Finding Nemo is one of the better animated films of all time and one of many excellent films from Disney Pixar. I really like it, I don't love it like a lot of people, but it's rare for me to love a kids film. I actually liked it less the first time I saw it so it's grown on me. My 2 year old absolutely loves it and that's the important thing.

The Shining 1980
In Kubrick's masterpiece, The Past is a figure of powerful manipulation. An all-encompassing generalization of The Past, from the personal journeys we can recollect ourselves, to the countless centuries of human bloodletting and the horrors that "shining" brings upon its cursed person. To say Danny has it harder than Cole in Sixth Sense would be a gross understatement. To shine is to gain a lifetime of overwhelming experiences flushed into the head like a lightning bolt. But the past doesn't…

Mission: Impossible 1996
Brian De Palma has over the years delivered some incredible films. From the savagery of "Scarface" to the perfectly set 20's gangster film that was "The Untouchables" he can hone his craft to different time periods and genres.
Mission Impossible was the first film that tempted Tom Cruise to start a franchise and has so far delivered 3 sequels that have been bigger and better than this original. Featuring an eclectic mix of a cast that included Jon Voight, Ving…

Fargo 1996
I decided to watch the director of photography commentary on this watch. This is a beautiful movie and there's no surprise that there's a director of photography commentary for it. I've got to say though, it wasn't quite as interesting as I thought it would be, but it is still worth a listen if you are into learning how shots are done and hear interesting stories about how scenes came to be. What was really annoying was that he would…

2 Fast 2 Furious 2003
"Come on, man. Guns, murderers and crooked cops? I was made for this, bro."
Yes, the film is borderline retarded, the acting is horrible and the ending is so eye rolling that I can't see straight, but for some reason I was entertained.
I won't try to safe this film in any way or form, is the worst of the franchise hands down, it feels so unreal and the CGI looks horrible!
Now, with all that said and dusted, I…

Star Trek 2009
I've never been a fan of Star Trek, actually, some hardcore "Trekkers" made me dislike it without even watching a single episode of the tv show or any of the movies. When this new one came out, I not even gave thought or consideration about seing at the theater or anywhere else, I just decided it was bad, and I remained that way until last year when I saw a scene of this movie with my father on TV and…

Fargo 1996
"The heck ya mean?"
God I love this film. Love it.
I remember hearing about this way back in the late '90s. I don't recall what I heard but I do remember being slightly interested but mostly indifferent since it sounded like it wasn't action packed enough for a young child's taste. Also, I remember thinking that this was about a Postal Service worker--Marge's hat still reminds me of a Postal Worker for some reason.
Now, years later, I'm older…

Dredd 2012
Sunday Morning Review!
I've been reviewing big, classic films on Sundays for a while. My choice this morning wasn't exactly a "classic" but I'm sure its bound to be a certain kind of classic sometime down the road. A cult classic if you will.
I'm of course talking about the ass kickin, blood sprayin, explosive party of stern mandibles that was Dredd. This under the radar hit from last year set fanboys pants aflame like an incendiary round because despite…

Iron Man 2008
#1 Marvel Phase One Film marathon: 2:00pm
What better way is there to spend a lazy Sunday than tackling a 6 movie marathon? None.
We begin with the first, and unfortunately for Marvel, the best film in the lead up to last years 'The Avengers'; one that wouldn't be bettered let alone matched. Much of that is down to the fact that Robert Downey, Jr. managed to rise up out of his world of a drug induced shit-storm and managed…
