Underworld: Rise of the Lycans 2009

Tobias’s review:
In my opinion the best of the Underworld movies. The movie has three major advantages over the other parts:
First of all Michael Sheen plays the main character. And he is without a doubt the best actor this franchise has to offer.
Second: This movie focuses more on the story than the other parts.
Third: The werewolves are some of the best I’ve seen in movies. It is the right use of CGI and costumes, they are dynamic but don’t look fake in the close-ups. And that’s something most movies just do wrong.
Most of the other cast does a pretty good job and it’s great that some of the actors from the previous movies made their return into this one.
Apart from that it has some issues. There are some plotholes. For example: It is a really short night during the final battle, isn’t it?
And I really don’t like Rhona Mitra. Her acting isn’t that convincing and I asked myself the whole time if the vampires already had plastic surgery during the dark ages. Her lips look so fake and I hate that (sorry if that’s natural, Rhona, but you have to admit that it looks fake). If Selene reminds Viktor of Sonja why don’t you put Kate Bekinsale in this role? Would have been better if you ask me.
So like the other Underworld-movies: Good action with cool style. Watch it if you like Wolves’n’Vamps.
