Monsters, Inc. 2001 ★★★★★

Rewatched Aug 26, 2012

Every time I watch Monsters Inc, it just gets better. Like any good kid's film, it has jokes for the young ones and for the adults they drag to the cinema to enjoy. It also creates characters we care about and completely immerses the audience in the world that it creates: a magic that Pixar alone can manage to conjure up.

Billy Crystal completely steals the show as Mike Wazowski and gets all the film's best lines. Steve Buscemi does his trademark oozing villainy very well as the evil Randall and the little girl Boo is utterly adorable, providing the film's emotional heart.

The plot is simple but, with the help of some of Pixar's most iconic characters and an excellent central conceit, as well as a generous dollop of heart and sentimentality, the film is genius. It's one of Pixar's best and I can't wait for the prequel when it comes out.
