  • Rebellion 2011

    ★★★★★ Watched 22 Apr, 2012

Walks the line between earnestness and sanctimony, and in doing so unseats The Hurt Locker as the most gripping, troubling and emotionally affecting war drama to be made so far this century.

  • The Avengers 2012

    ★★★★½ Watched 25 Apr, 2012

Blockbuster filmmaking at it's finest, THE AVENGERS is pure, unadulterated fun. Not only the action phenomenal, but the script is terrific (and often hilarious). Whedon takes Thor's Hammer and knocks it out of the park

  • Haywire 2012

    ★★★★½ Rewatched 09 Apr, 2012

    Pure style

  • Gremlins 1984

    ★★★★½ Rewatched 04 Apr, 2012

Pheobe Cates' "Why I Hate Christmas" scene contains one of the best monologues in film history

  • The Cabin in the Woods 2012

    ★★★★ Watched 16 Jun, 2012

If you love horror movies, then you will love Cabin in the Woods. Not because it's scary (although it is), but because it loves horror movies too.

  • Killer Joe 2012

    ★★★★ Watched 14 Jun, 2012

A gruesome, greasy bucket-load of uninhibited tastelessness...and I mean that it the best possible way

  • Headshot 2012

    ★★★★ Watched 13 Jun, 2012

Awesome despite it's ludicrous third act reveal. Cinematography, structure reflect Fincher, Nolan

  • Snow White and the Huntsman 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 19 Jun, 2012

Although Kristen Stewart is dreadful and what I thought was epic sound work turned out to just be a minor earthquake, Snow White & the Huntsman still turns out to be a surprisingly compelling action/fantasy film with a consistent pace, effective atmosphere and commanding visuals galore.

  • The Innkeepers 2011

    ★★★½ Watched 17 May, 2012 1

A stock standard ghost story, but it works because you actually care about the characters

  • The Five-Year Engagement 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 02 May, 2012

Could have been edited down significantly, but still quite funny and occasionally rather insightful. Free champaign and cupcakes at the screening didn't hurt

  • The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 01 Apr, 2012

Cute and charming, in a simplistic, vaguely condescending kind of way

  • Prometheus 2012

    ★★½ Watched 01 Jun, 2012 1

While its ambition should be applauded, Prometheus is a bitter disappointment; a film that fails to live up to its own lofty aspirations or the legacy of the masterpiece it precedes. Heightened expectations aside, it contains a dearth of three-dimensional characters and is hamstrung by a script that never really attempts to address its own questions, be they of grand celestial importance or basic narrative mechanics
