Margin Call 2011 ★★★★

Reviewed Aug 09, 2012

What a lovely little film about an investment bank that decides to sell everything right before the 2008 financial crisis. It's such a fast movie, it felt like a short documentary. Everyone played it to the hilt but not overacting, from Stanley Tucci and Kevin Spacey to Zachary Quinto and Jeremy Irons (Demi Moore has a small but key role, as do Paul Bettany and Simon Baker). One need know nothing about the crash really or what the investment bank was selling to follow the story and the risky and unethical decisions made by those involved. The pace and the muscular, sinewy script was so perfectly done that I wasn't at all surprised and indeed quite happy to see it nominated for a screenplay Oscar. Beautifully done, absolutely so.
