Normally if I wanted to see the psychotic breakdown of a character I would find a go-to horror movie about a serial killer or I would watch a downward spiral movie about drug abuse. When I first heard of Take Shelter, I was already a fan of Michael Shannon and needed to see this.
The movie is sort of a slow burn, considering the fact that you need to be slipped into a fairly comfortable atmosphere before watching it shatter…
One of those movies that really sticks with you at the end.
If you expect a plot that leaves you with a nice package of resolution all neatly tied up with a little bow on top, don't watch this movie. It is about so many things that there is no way it could even be explained. There are no characters who know everything and have a monologue giving you all the details. All you get is what the characters get and maybe a bit more towards the end.
This film really is a masterpiece. I'll probably come back and write more about it some other time.
