Xanadu 1980 ★★★★

Reviewed Jan 27, 2012

There is no doubt that XANADU is a highly flawed and occasionally unfortunate production with a barely existent plot, half-assed and highly questionable design and some unimpressive musical sequences.

And that's why it's AWESOME.

There is no genre of movie quite as memorable and adorable as the BAD 70's MUSICAL (a term that actually applies to the truly terrible rash of musicals made between 1975 to 1985). Like pornography it's hard to define, but you always know it when you see it and XANADU may just be it's most perfect example.

I get that you don't get it. That's fine. I feel sad for you, but I'm sure you have other ways to find joy in this often cruel and depressing world of ours.

And did I mention Olivia Newton-John in skintight spandex?
