Olivia Tay’s review:
The treatment of this film was amazing. It's not for the faint-hearted. The cinematography, the direction, the lighting created such an intense atmosphere, it just heightened the whole experience.
Ryan Gosling's performance was superb. Even though he didn't say much, he said a lot. It's all in the nuances. Carey Mulligan was equally outstanding.
I'm afraid if I say too much, I'll ruin it. But I absolutely loved this movie. Dark, but compelling. The violence was effective, but not gratuitous.
I loved the soundtrack, it was perfect for the movie. Even though it's not the type of songs one would expect for this movie, it fit perfectly. Haunting. And it lingers.
It's a movie that is excellent in such an understated way. It should have received more Oscar love, especially for Gosling.
