The Artist 2011 ★★★★

Watched Feb 17, 2012

Such a charming and delightful film! :D Probably won't be my favorite Oscar movie this season, but only because I am weirdly drawn towards dark movies (hello, Black Swan). It's a really simple plot, but it charms and wins over the audience easily.

Jean Dujardin is winsome in his role as a silent film overshadowed by the arrival of the 'talkies', both parts charismatic as an actor in his prime and disconsolate in his later years. Bernice Bejo is equally adept as the young starlet Peppy Miller. Her performance was full of pep and is easily one of the revelations of the film. And who could forget little Uggy as the show-stealing dog. (:

This movie is unique in the slew of big-budget Hollywood films, and is a delightful throwback to the golden years.
