Wesley Snipes' performance telegraphs his displeasure with the film and its script. He later sued Goyer and New Line for violations of his contract wherein he revealed the filmmakers had kept him in the dark regarding script changes and editing to reduce his role in favour of, in his view, setting up potential spin-offs for the newly introduced Nightstalkers team. While Snipes' performance is phoned in, Ryan Reynolds' sarcastic comedy manages to save this otherwise soulless action flick, at least giving some credence to Goyers' edits.
