vickiexz’s review:
Steven Soderbergh's take on the 1972 classic is essentially the abridged version, which I guess someone had to inevitably make, as the original while brilliant was largely inaccessible. While I was drawn in by Tarkovsky's eerie atmosphere and curious themes on humanity, it was ultimately pretty fucking boring.
This version really isn't that much better, but it does keep most of what made Tarkovsky's film so great - mostly the overall weirdness - though it does have some pretty annoying elements as well that Tarkovsky's didn't. Mostly I think it was just trying too hard to be unconventional. It wasn't bad, I wouldn't really recommend it over the original unless you are short on time and don't feel like reading subtitles.
