The Glimmer Man 1996
Brilliantly silly Seagal outing, as he tackles the serial killer thriller. Of course this isn't enough, and an organised crime conspiracy is thrown in to keep the fights coming. Seagal's mysticism and appropriation of different cultures starts to make an appearance here, as we enter the golden years of his career.

What Richard Did 2012
Bland characters, bland script and a dull story undermine this social realist drama to the point that it isn't social realist any more - I don't know anyone as boring as the people in this film.

Island of Death 1975
This is one of the more insane Video Nasties, up against some pretty stiff competition. Hilarious if you've got the "right" sense of humour, and all the better for being English, with a disturbing 1970s sex comedy feel. I'm not going to tell you what happens because the surprises are part of the fun - you never know what it's going to throw at you next.

All Divided Selves 2012
Turner Prize runner-up Luke Fowler's film is a welcome rehabilitation of RD Laing, exploring his compassionate theories and damning the regression into drug therapy and "otherness" that informs modern psychiatry. As a work of art All Divided Selves should be seen as referencing contemporary art's rediscovery of the radical, unashamedly intellectual art of the 60s and 70s; but it is also indicative of a growing dissatisfaction with capitalist realism in the wake of the financial crisis, and a desire to take another look at the unfinished theories of the radical 20th century.
