Forbidden Planet 1956 ★★★★

Rewatched Apr 13, 2012

It's better than I remembered. I think it stands above most of other sci-fi films of this era and it's not hard to see the influence this movie had on later films of the genre. The acting is decent, the robot is fun but the thing I liked the most was the set design elements. It makes a good double-bill with Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

  • "What is this thing you call... kissing?"

It's a classic! If only for Robbie the unlimited bottles of whiskey producing Robot.

  • I think it holds up really well. Better than many films that were released much later.

  • I love that they never really reveal the alien race that lived there before (the name escapes me), instead just seeing the huge triangular doors and imagining what must have needed them to be that shape gives the film an edge most fifties sci-fi misses.
