If I had a nickel every time a sexually frustrated and jealous woman in a severe black dress burned down her rival’s home I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. But seriously, not since Judith Anderson in Rebecca have I seen a villain this spiteful. It made me physically angry to watch so hat’s off to that performance by Mercedes McCambridge. The only thing I’ll criticize is that this movie is grossly misnamed.
