Seems like Wong Kar-Wai is the master of telling things without saying them. I don't get it, why people are saying, that 2046 is only the spiritual sequel to In The Mood For Love; it is quite obvious, that it is a direct sequel; I think (or read somewhere) that the two movies got shot partly in parallel.
