Serenity 2005

Carl Ingebretsen’s review:
A damn near perfect film - fun, entertaining, always moving forward, never stopping to re-fuel. It's a testament to Whedon's brilliant writing, directing, characters and actors that it works nearly just as well stand-alone as it does when viewed after Firefly.
A canceled TV series being able to finish off it's storyline in a theatrical movie like this still amazes me. This movie is one of the primary reasons I'm looking so forward to seeing The Avengers on Friday, Whedon really seems to know how to handle an ensemble cast and make it great.
Whedon and his ensembles are pretty much why he was chosen to write/direct The Avengers. Serenity tells a much more complex and layered story than Avengers does, but his knack of writing dialogue and action-sequences, as well as shooting them, is on shining display in Avengers.
It pretty much is the best thing Whedon's ever done, directing-wise.
We saw Serenity first, then discovered Firefly because of it. What a fantastic day that was. Oh, it's June. Time for our annual re-watch of both. I love June ;-)

As we all should.
