The Haunted Mansion 2003 ★★½

Rewatched Sep 06, 2012

I saw this in 2003-4, back when everyone was raving over the first POTC-film while damning this to a lackluster try to do something similar with another Disney Ride. I remember being scared, having fun and actually felt quite satisfied with the film. I never saw it again, so I figured here the other day that it was time to revisit it.

What I got the second time around was a very mediocre film; it has all the ingredients and potential of being good, but the story is weak, the jokes usually pretty bad and the whole thing is all too simple.

It's not all bad though; Terrence Stamp knocks it out of the park, having a ton of fun being the sinister butler, the soundtrack is pretty fantastic and the set designs are fucking awesome.

Still, it's a lackluster film that could've been so much more.... Oh well. Guillermo del Toro is on reboot-assignment now; hopefully he can turn all the potential into a fun, scary and good Haunted Mansion story. I can't wait to see it.
