Kevin Wight’s review:
This film made me wish I lived in Paris in the 60s. The cars were cool, the people were cool, even the Metro carriages were cool.
Too many ridiculous CGI monstrosities today are labelled as style-over-substance, but this is what real style looks like. There is no substitute for great cinematography and genuine charisma. Yes, the plot is perhaps slight and maybe such a perfectionist as he is supposed to be makes a slightly elementary balls-up at the beginning, but this is just a joy to watch. It's a tremondous actor that can act almost entirely with his eyes and a fedora, I suspect Delon's Jef Costello may well be an inspiration for Ryan Gosling's character in Drive. Anyway, I digress. This is pretty damn awesome.
