The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec 2010

Michael Mackenzie’s review:
On the whole I quite enjoyed this for its sheer dementedness, and Adèle Blanc-Sec makes for an engaging (and different) heroine. It felt a bit like Besson trying and not quite managing to be Jean-Pierre Jeunet - the whimsical voice-over and exaggerated, buffoonish characters certainly reminded me of AMELIE and MICMACS... though I know the film is based on a comic, so perhaps that's where the sense of humour comes from? It ends on a rather odd note - I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to laugh at the final reveal or not - and there's way too much reliance on not-particularly-great CGI, but I found it a nice little distraction and it leaves me looking forward to seeing what Besson gets up to next.
