John Dies at the End 2013
Interesting set-ups and an admirable vision, let down by low production values and shaky structure. Like an extended episode of Supernatural, with more grue and little more to say - such a shame after the great trailers.

Beauty is Embarrassing 2012
Mostly entertaining, but the self-aggrandising and 'inspirational' tone of the end section became almost too much to make this a truly satisfying watch. Lots of fantastic footage and an engaging subject, but I can't help think a more in-depth look at his process or a documentary focused entirely on Pee-wee's Playhouse and the creative scene behind it would have been more interesting and insightful.

The Cabin in the Woods 2012
Holy smokes. I think the whole Inception/spoiler-free/know nothing schtick is going to do it more harm than good, but what it does it does so well. Worth it alone for the opening scene to see Josh Lyman in a corridor/workplace tracking shot again.

127 Hours 2010
Made me wish I had a pen knife blade to saw off the overbearingly stylistic moments and the opening scenes, but the details of the true story, Franco's performance and a large number of scenes (the mental run through to the bottle of energy drink in the truck and the 'detachment' scene in particular were exceptional) made for an over all riveting watch.
