Nothing can take away from the fine performances from Brannagh, Redmayne or, particularly, Michelle Williams as Marilyn; but performances are not enough in a story lacking significant stakes and ultimately culminates in a film that feels all too inconsequential and safe to be truly interesting. Light, whimsical entertainment none-the-less.
