The Imposter 2012
An utterly compelling true life tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the credits roll and asking questions long after they finish; avoid plot descriptions at all costs.

Oz: The Great and Powerful 2013
Raimi's film firmly aims itself to be a prequel to the 1930's classic; it has the spectacle, the good performances but lacks the musicality and lightness of story which quite often becomes bogged down in plot development and roller-coaster 3-D shenanigans.

Welcome to the Punch 2013
A tight action-thriller with a solid story, performances and visceral sequences, all made with a loving nod to Michael Mann's 'Heat' .

A Good Day to Die Hard 2013
I feel for many of the people involved in 'A Good Day to Die Hard', mainly the audience.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi 2012
There is little dramatic about the story of 85 year-old Jiro and his life long obsession with sushi, yet this portrait is utterly compelling: slowly drawing you into Jiro's world and his endless pursuit for perfection. One disappointment is that the documentary avoids Jiro's relationship with his wife. Otherwise, inspirational.

Witness for the Prosecution 1957
Charles Laughton gives a bellowing, scene stealing performance in this Sunday afternoon who-done-it; its stageplay origins make for a too hurried conclusion but doesn't spoil a warm and entertaining feature by Billy Wilder.
-
The Last Stand 2013
A functional action romp with Arnold back as the action hero lead, let's hope that he can pick more interesting scripts in the future.

This Means War 2012
Hardy and Pine are heads and shoulders above this film. Just souless.

Bernie 2012
Jack Black gives a career best performance as all-round lovable Funeral Director beside an equally excellent Shirley MacLaine as Mrs Nugent – the town’s own Mrs. Scrooge. This true story has a fable-like quality to it and is handled in an almost inconsequential manner. Using a technique of overlapping real-life interviewees with fictionalized scenes can at times be jarring; however, both elements on their own highly entertaining. Ultimately, Bernie is an interesting character study of a lovable character and the community that surrounds him.
