Wonderfully drawn and acted characters make up for a plot that is overstuffed and lets far too many interesting ideas go unresolved. The individual elements are all amazingly good, but viewed as a whole, it's a big, sloppy mess. Still, Nolan's big, sloppy messes are far more compelling than most directors on their A-game could ever hope to be.
