Dredd 2012
Sunday Morning Review!
I've been reviewing big, classic films on Sundays for a while. My choice this morning wasn't exactly a "classic" but I'm sure its bound to be a certain kind of classic sometime down the road. A cult classic if you will.
I'm of course talking about the ass kickin, blood sprayin, explosive party of stern mandibles that was Dredd. This under the radar hit from last year set fanboys pants aflame like an incendiary round because despite…

Schindler's List 1993
Spielberg's greatest achievement. Poignant, direct, bold with inescapably realistic scenes of atrocity. With some of the finest performances, you can see that every single person involved in this film gave it their all. Heartbreaking but stunning. A work of uncomfortable brilliance.

Zombieland 2009
An excellent horror-comedy, a bit light on plot, but with a couple of good performances and a hysterically funny script that finds time for romance, pathos and an awful lot of zombie-killing.
Jesse Eisenberg is brilliant as an anxious nerd and zombie apocalypse survivor who joins forces with gun-totin' warrior-of-vengeance Woody From Cheers (in fine form), before stumbling across foxy Emma Stone and her sister (Abigail Breslin), who are in all sorts of trouble.
Stone isn't as great as usual…

Side Effects 2013
Twisted, convoluted, vintage Soderbergh. One plot twist not enough for you? Try a handful then. An exhausting, insane film.

Face/Off 1997
Walk into this expecting subtlety and you're in trouble. Walk into this expecting cheesy, retarded fun and you'll be just fine.
See, this film does something quite extraordinary. It takes an absolutely ridiculous gimmick, seemingly created just to have an absurd action packed impersonation contest and it makes it work.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the script, because it is just really poor. It is overlong, has some cringe worthy dialogue and is riddled with annoying static in…

American Psycho 2000
Film Fact or Fiction?: Christian Bale based elements of his performance as Patrick Bateman on Tom Cruise after seeing an interview with the diminutive star. According to director Mary Harron, Bale said he saw “... this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes ...”. - Hopefully fact.

The Shining 1980
Fact or Fiction?: Stanley Kubrick would reportedly call Stephen King at 3am to ask him questions about The Shining. According to King, one famous exchange had the director ask the author, “Do you believe in God?”. When he replied in the affirmative Kubrick yelled “I knew it!” and slammed the phone down. - Hopefully fact.

The Big Lebowski 1998
This film never turns stale no matter how many times I watch it. You know why?
Because it has got the coolest character in all of film universe in, His Dudeness.
I absolutely love it.

The Skin I Live In 2011
Well that was weird.
It was good.
But it was weird.
I mean like really weird, and messed up, and disturbing, and weird.Did I mention it was weird?
Odd
But good.
But weird.Antonio Banderas plays a Doctor who's an expert on skin. He lives in an impressive house where he is seemingly holding a woman prisoner whilst he works on her skin.
To say much more would ruin the film really but the central mystery is who is… -
Life of Pi 2012
I have always loved Tigers. They are undoubtedly my favorite animal. I'm glad Life of Pi exists to show everybody how awesome tigers are. Really, though the movie is beautiful. It's got some of the most beautiful shots I've ever seen in it. It's magical. It balances the line between realism and fantasy so well that it becomes the same. There's not another movie out there like Life of Pi and not many capture the same feelings displayed in this…

Side Effects 2013
Started out a bit slow but took a very interesting and gruesome turn about half way through. I really enjoyed the way this film played out. It did remind me a LOT of another similar famous flick but I fear if I mention it ill spoil one or the other (or both).
