Start spreading the news

OK my letterboxd friends I want to put together a list a films that you strongly feel deserve more attention and wanna spread the news about them. It can be foreign films that deserve a wider audience, underrated films, underseen films, and older films that need to find a new audience. I've listed a few to start the list

I apologize if someone has already used start spreading the news as a list title, and I'm sure someone else has done a similar list. It never hurts to spread the news about these films though.

  • @jordan In Bruges is an excellent choice added. I'll also add Play It Again, Sam although I must admit I'm not a Woody Allen fan.

  • I'm intrigued by some of the selections thus far (eg. I thought Cemetary Junction was trite and cliched) but I'm surprised no one has suggested Brick, especially with Looper being so popular at the moment. Brick is an incredible film.

  • @David I've only seen Brick once, and I was a little disappointed in it. It's one I plan on re-visiting though because I know a lot of people like it so I wanna give it another chance. Anyway added.

  • @Ron interesting, what was it that you didn't like? I just found it was such a complete world and focused narrative. I dig a little noir too and found it a fun take on the world. That said I respect anyone's opinion on film... Unless they like the Step Up films ;)

  • I think I was a little to hyped up to see it honestly. I normally like that type of thing and it was high on my list of films to see at the time so I think I was a little let down when I finally saw it. That's why I plan re-watching it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I like it much better next time I see it.

    I refuse to watch the Step Up films ; )

  • I really liked Brick as well, although it did take me about 30 minutes to truly get into it. Ron, did you watch it with subtitles? The version I had had hard-coded subs. At first I tried to turn them off, but then realized I would be understanding probably <50% of the dialog if I didn't have them.

  • I see that you added my recommendations. Awesome! But, I do have to make a correction here. The Happy Go Lucky that is listed is not the one that I intended to make the list.... it's the title that has the hyphens in it Happy-Go-Lucky, which stars Sally Hawkins. Anywho, appreciate it. Love this list! It's got a lot to choose from. Can't believe I didn't even think to recommend Brick. Such a good movie!

  • Oh, oh, oh & if you get the chance... I also recommend Welcome to the Dollhouse!

  • @Callan I watched without subtitles.

    @Heather I'll make the correction.

  • Woo! I see it. Thanks, bub.
