What an amazing movie. I was blown away.
Figured I'd give it a watch since it was a Takashi Miike movie and I usually find his work very high quality and I was not disappointed.
Ok, the first half is really slow and I did struggle a little in places to realise what was going on, but once I sorted out who was who then it all fell into place.
The end battle is one of the most fascinating and yet beautiful fight scenes I have ever seen. It's crafted with such care that you almost forget you're watching just a movie.
Amazing visuals and done with a brilliant mind, but the story however seemed to go nowhere. It tried to do too much of two different things. It was either a science fiction story, or a love story and in the end mixing the two left not enough explained in either instance.
The cast was great although apart from the two leads everyone else was largely forgettable.
Amazing conclusion to one of the best movie series of all time.
There have been lots of people who have had negative things to say about this movie. As someone who for the most part tries to stay objective, I cannot understand why.
