This is Jack Nicholson's finest performance. Alright maybe not as great as his psychotic turn in The Shining, but he does a good Pseudo-Psychotic too. Chief is a great character as well Nurse Ratchet. She does a good job of making it hard to determine whether she if a lawful evil or neutral. That's usually the sign of an excellent character.
Nice translation of literature into cinema.
