    Insidious: The Last Key

Leigh Whannell is truly a terrible writer. His own character is overused, to ill effect. Lin Shaye remains interesting but with on-the-nose dialogue she can’t do much. Practical effects are nice but why the reliance on jump scares in every one of these? Plot shallow and largely devoid of feeling.

    There Will Be Blood

    As good as ever.

    Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Why did this movie have NO STAKES. None at all.

  • Clown

High concept, good FX, felt more suitable for a short.

  • Veronica

    Predictable, with beautiful imagery.

  • A Gray State

    A Gray State

Disturbing and prescient subject matter. Documentary itself fails to ask all the questions it should, ending is strange and out of place.

  • Lavender

Interesting tone. Predictable, cliched horror storyline involving childhood abuse.

  • A Cure for Wellness

    A Cure for Wellness

Absurd. Not in a good way.

  • Get Out

    Get Out

Strange, excellent, unlike anything I've seen before. High concept horror at its finest.

  • Midnight in Paris

    Midnight in Paris

Arguably the best Woody Allen movie (probably because he isn't in it). As a writer, it speaks volumes. It is magical realism at its finest.

  • The Cell

    The Cell

Absolutely dreamy cinematography and makeup. Thin storyline, but it wasn't terribly missed. Stand out performance with very little dialogue from Vincent D'onofrio.
