    It’s an extreme gift that So many Chahine films are on Netflix now.

    This, the earliest one on there, is a particularly potent and powerful combination of realist social drama, melodrama, crime thriller, and romance. His technique throughout is wonderful. Combining a poetic and journalistic eye.

    Drags a little bit (it’s very long, and often meditative) but is an extremely well made and complicated coming of age story. Gorgeous and hazy. Incredible central performance.
